Morado is the false rosewood; the indication of what could be but is not. Looking so much like a real rosewood with irregular grain patterns and wild colorations, but not being a member of the Dalbergia family of trees. Morado has many names including Pau Ferro, Moradillo, and Bolivian Rosewood, but the one thing that is agreed upon is its beauty. This is a dense hardwood with tight grain patterns and lots of color including dark wild streaks of black throughout.
This wood has surprisingly good news in that neither CITES nor IUCN list Morado on their threatened species list; with an additional note that the IUCN lists Pau Ferro as a species of least concern! All hail the beauty of this exotic for years to come! With that said at Pezui we want very much for this wood to be maintained for generations so we are submitting donations to the IUCN for boxes made of Morado to support their efforts identifying, classifying, and protecting the species.
