African Padauk is an amazing wood that is very much an enigma, as this wood starts in a prominent shade of brown or orange and darkens into somewhere between brown/purple and brown/black over time. You really don’t know what you are going to get, but you do know that this wood is a beautiful hardwood.
Though Padauk is constantly shifting in its color with exposure to UV, it is not listed on CITES or IUCN threatened species lists.

Elder Custom – $125.00 Black Italian leather lined; with 2″ thick black leather belting strap using antiqued nickel snaps. This box was has a great deal of sapwood which gives it a range of colors from black to red with white. Exquisite and unique, unlike all other Padauk samples we have run into. There is also a delightful hard sap crystal embedded in the lid side edge of the box giving it a certain mythical quality.
